On the evening of August 5th, 1608, three luminous craft visited the sky over Baie des Anges in Nice, France, much to the dismay of it's citizens. They watched the objects race errantly about for some time, when they suddenly stopped and hovered a few feet above the water. The craft were long, oval in shape and flattened along their lengths, each with a "strange mast" sitting on top of them. The bay waters began to frothe underneath them, giving off a dense orange vapor, accompanied by a loud, unpleasant noise. From one of the craft two vaguely human looking beings appeared. They were described as being dressed in red clothes covered with silvery scales, with huge heads and luminous eyes. The two creatures, holding cables or tubes attached to the craft, jumped into the water and moved about their ship for around two hours. When they returned inside the object, all three left at a high rate of speed, leaving the terrified residents of Nice wondering at what this omen from God could possibly mean.
That same month, on the 22nd, the visitors reappeared further south in Genoa, Italy, where they were greeted by over 800 cannonballs that were fired at them. Although the attack did no apparent damage to the craft, none of the creatures, or aliens emerged from their craft. People there panicked, and several deaths were reported as the result of trampling by terrified people and some overcome with fear. Finally the three objects left.
On the 25th, three days later, a single vessel appeared near Marseilles, over the fishing village of Martigues, and again displayed the same erratic flight maneuvers that had been displayed over Nice. It stopped in mid-air and two beings got out, appearing to engage in an aerial duel of some kind. The following week, there was a heavy fall of red rain, and in the months after churches were packed with worshipers begging to be spared whatever disastrous fate that was about to befall them. While accounts of these events are sometimes ambiguously worded, it is remarkable that so many people in three separate locations could have imagined such strange occurrences at a time when no flying machines existed.

1643 England: From diarist, John Evelyn. "I must not forget what amazed us exceedingly the night before, namely, a shining cloud in the air in a shape resembling a sword, the point reaching to the north. It was as bright as the moon, the rest of the sky being very serene. It began about 11 at night and vanished not till about one, being seen by all the south of England."

August 15th, Saturday. As the people of the village Robozero (in the Bolozero district, Russia) were in church they heard a loud noise in the sky and many people left the church to see what was up. One of them was the farmer Levka Pedorov who told the story to the monastery monk, who documented it in script. In midday a "great ball of fire" descended from the south in a clear blue sky over Robozero and moved across the church to the near lake.
